5 Top Dollywood Rides for Kids You Have to Try When You Visit

  • June 1, 2022

When people think of things to do on a Smoky Mountain getaway, Dollywood is usually on most people’s list of must-do activities — and for good reason. There are many different performances and festivals that make for an entertaining day, but the kids will most certainly want to add some thrill-seeking adventures on their trip. Here’s our list of the 5 Dollywood rides for kids that you have to try.

1. Village Carousel

The Village Carousel is one of the Dollywood rides that carries with it the most nostalgia, and it’s usually a ride that most parents seek out to ride with their children no matter how old they are. Whether it’s the delightful carnival music, or the beautifully painted animals, there’s much to enjoy and reminisce about on Dollywood’s version of this classic.

2. Whistle Punk Chaser

What makes Dollywood ideal for kids and their need for excitement at every turn is their selection of junior coasters. Some of the more adrenaline-pumping Dollywood roller coasters aren’t suitable for the youngsters; that’s why the Whistle Punk Chaser is a great option for kids who can’t quite meet the height requirement of the faster coasters. Parents who don’t love the big coasters should be able to handle this one, but it still has its share of twists and turns.

3. Firechaser Express

The Firechaser Express is one of the more original and exciting of all the Dollywood rides that kids have to try. We all know the drill when it comes to coasters: you usually go fast and do many turns, drops, twists, and loops. But did you know on this one, you don’t just go forward; you go backward too! It’s a dual-launch family coaster that you have to experience for a unique kind of excitement that’ll have the kids screaming in joy.

4. Demolition Derby

Another classic that’s not just a ride but a case of releasing some pent-up frustration is the Demolition Derby. Kids love getting the chance to feel like they’re driving, but hopefully what they do on this one doesn’t imitate their parents’ behavior on the road. Kids may drive these cars only if they’re 48 inches tall, but they can ride with a friend or adult who is taller.

5. Dollywood Express

Other theme parks have trains to ride, but do they go 5 miles through one the most majestic places with some of the best views anywhere? We think not. That’s exactly why this ride aboard an authentic steam engine is a favorite of kids and adults.
